Dr. Raymond L. Scott was Professor of Bible and Science at Columbia International University for twenty-six years, where he taught a wide variety of Bible, science, theology and church history courses. He also served faithfully for over 54 years in churches in Pennsylvania, New York, Illinois, South Carolina, North Carolina and Georgia. After his time at CIU, Dr. Scott was the Executive Pastor of Christ Community Church (SBC) in Huntersville, North Carolina, from 1998 to 2002, and then served as Pastor Emeritus and Senior Bible Teacher. He relocated to Fayetteville, North Carolina in 2005 and passed away in November 2007.
Dr. Scott’s theological education included an M. Div. degree and a M.A. in church history, both from Wheaton Graduate School of Theology, plus a Th.D in theology from Grace Theological Seminary. His scientific training included a B.A. degree in pre-medicine and organic chemistry from Temple University, an M.S. in organic chemistry from Drexel University, and doctoral studies in biochemistry at the University of Pennsylvania Medical School. Prior to entering Christian ministry, Dr. Scott was employed for sixteen years in medical and pharmaceutical research.
He authored a unique book describing the actual appearances of Christ in Old Testament times, entitled The Hiding God, published first by Master’s Press and later by Baker Book House (this book is currently out of print).
Dr. Scott and his wife Anne had four sons. He was beloved by generations of students and church members whose lives were touched by his faithful teaching of God’s Word and his warm humor. He always had a warm smile for everyone and gave strength and encouragement to those in need. Dr. Scott’s spirit remained strong even as he struggled through three heart attacks, a successful battle with lung cancer, and finally a losing battle with congestive heart failure. He continued to teach God’s Word faithfully and to exalt the Lord Jesus Christ at every opportunity.
